"Programmer" as an identity is obsolete

LIVE from NEARCON Day 1 In SF (The Rollup)

“I think just the identity — if you identify yourself as a programmer, your job is at risk… the people that identify themselves as ‘I’m a full stack, I’m a back end’ — no, those are going to be gone. There’s zero margin[al] value in that skill anymore.” — Greg Osuri, 03:22:16

Context: Closing hiring take: builders, generalists, and domain experts win; narrow programming specialists lose to agents.

AkashML processes ~100 billion tokens a month

The Infrastructure Behind Agentic Finance, with Shashank Yadav and Greg Osuri of Akash Network (Fraction AI)

“We’re processing about 100 billion tokens a month. I think we do more tokens on OpenRouter than Cloudflare and whatnot, which is pretty decent volume — and nobody that uses AkashML knows we’re using crypto on the underneath rails.” — Greg Osuri, 00:38:22

Context: AkashML as the crypto-invisible managed inference product; presented as proof that hiding the rails drives growth.

By 2030: weaker dollar, scarcer resources, real displacement

From AWS to Akash: Greg Osuri on Building a Decentralized Compute Marketplace (Smart Economy Network)

“I think by 2030 we are going to see a very different world than we have today… dollar is going to get weaker… resources are going to get more scarce… because people can do more with less… people that have the means are going to consume a lot more resources compared to people that have no access to AI.” — Greg Osuri, 00:56:33

Context: Answer to the host’s request for a 2-4 year outlook in a post-“Open Claw” agentic world.

Double-digit GDP growth from AI within ~5 years, with fewer jobs

From AWS to Akash: Greg Osuri on Building a Decentralized Compute Marketplace (Smart Economy Network)

“I think we’re just going to do a lot more but less people were employed. I think overall output will be significantly higher… in like 5 years there’s going to be at least a two-digit growth in GDP because of AI. I really believe that… the wealthy is going to get wealthier.” — Greg Osuri, 00:58:45

Context: Transcript reads “a single twodigit growth”; he pairs the GDP call with significantly lower employment and a wider wealth gap.

Forcing crypto on AI customers was our biggest mistake

The Infrastructure Behind Agentic Finance, with Shashank Yadav and Greg Osuri of Akash Network (Fraction AI)

“We lost such major deals because we mandated crypto purchases… it’s a very big company and everybody knows this company. We forced them to buy AKT… the finance department was very unhappy with owning crypto… we eventually lost the deal because of crypto. So if you’re trying to sell to anyone decent in AI, don’t do crypto. Trust me, it doesn’t work. And I think trying to force crypto on AI people was our biggest mistake we made.” — Greg Osuri, 00:39:47

Context: Candid admission; earlier he notes Akash’s website no longer mentions crypto at all and products like AkashML were built partly “to get away from crypto branding” (00:36:56).

Front-end/back-end developers out of a job in 2-3 years

From AWS to Akash: Greg Osuri on Building a Decentralized Compute Marketplace (Smart Economy Network)

“If you’re identifying yourself as a front-end developer or a back-end developer… you’ll be out of a job in two, three years. I mean, I’m very serious about this. But if you identify yourself as a builder… those people are going to be successful.” — Greg Osuri, 00:52:58

Context: On AI job displacement; advises breadth over early specialization because “mastering is AI”; quote begins at the end of the [00:52:16] block.
